Golden Gate

Golden Gate (Polish: Złota Brama)  is one of the most notable tourist attractions of the city. It was designed by architect Abraham van den Blocke and was constructed by Jan Strakowski. The architectural style of the gate is Dutch manierism. Next to it is the late-gothic building of the Brotherhood of St.George. Both sides of the gate have attiques, with figures symbolising citizen's qualities. They were designed in 1648 by Jeremias Falck ("Polonus"), and reconstructed in 1878 due to the originals being damaged by time and climate. From the West side they represent: Pax (Peace), Libertas (Freedom), Fortuna (Wealth) and Fama (Fame). From the East side (Long Lane) they are Concordia (Agreement), Iustitia (Justice), Pietas (Piety) and Prudentia (Prudency). The Latin inscription on the gates reads: "In agreement republics grow, because of disagreements empires fall".

St. Mary's Church

St. Mary's Church (Polish: Bazylika Mariacka, German: Marienkirche) or, properly, Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gdańsk is the largest brick church in the world, and one of the largest Brick Gothic buildings in Europe. It is 105.5 m long, and the nave is 66 m wide. Inside the church is room for 25,000 people. It is an aisled hall church with a transept St. Mary's Church is a triple-aisled hall church with a triple-aisled transept. Both the transept and the main nave are of similar width and height, which is a good example of late gothical style. Certain irregularities in the form of the northern arm of the transept are remnants of the previous church situated on the very same spot.  The exterior is dominated by plain brick plains and high and narrow gothical arch windows.  The church is decorated within with several masterpieces of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque painting.

The Port of Gdańsk is a seaport located on the southern coast of Gdańsk Bay in the city of Gdańsk, extending along the Vistula estuary Martwa Wisła (Dead Vistula), Port Channel and Kashubia Canal. It is one of the largest seaports on the Baltic Sea. The Port of Gdańsk is divided into two parts, the Inner and Exterior Port.  In the Port of Gdańsk is specialized cargo handling equipment and port infrastructure, enabling among others the handling of grain, fertilizers, lumber, ore, steel and containers, as well as ro-ro vessel servicing.

The Neptun Fountain

The fountain occupying the square in front of the Artus Court ever since 1633 is symbolic of Gdańsk. The initiative to erect it came from the City Mayor, Bartłomiej Schachmann. The figure of Neptune stands for Gdańsk's bond with the sea. It was sculpted by Peter Husen and Johann Rogge, and the cast, moulded in 1615, was commissioned from Augsburg. The general conceptual design was developed by Abraham van den Blocke. The magnificent surrounding fencing was added in 1634. Between 1757-1761 Johann Karl Stender modified the fountain chalice and plinth in the Rococo style and added a whole array of sea creatures.
